Another MVC with Entrapment in Highland

At 1347 hours, the Cochranville Fire Company, Ambulance 28 (Parkesburg) and Medic 94
(SCCEMS) were dispatched for a Motor Vehicle Crash with Entrapment on Route 10 North
of Gum Tree Road in Highland Township. Engine 27-1 responded at 1352 hours. Chester
County Fire Board advised that caller stated a two-vehicle crash car vs. tractor-trailer.
Medic 94-1 requested helicopter on standby. Deputy 27 arrived on scene at 1352 hours
confirming entrapment. Engine 27-1 arrived at 1353 hours, Chief 27 assumed Route 10
command utilizing Engine 27-1 as Route 10 CP. Deputy 27 assumed operations.
Engine 27-1’s crew started stabilization of the car and lead off with the pre-connected
combi-tool and O cutter. Medic 94-1 was advised of extent of entrapment. Skycare1 was
requested to the scene. Ambulance 28-1 arrived on scene, preparing their equipment for
the patient.
Rescue 27 arrived on scene placing into service the front bumper tools to assist in the
rescue operations. Engine 27-3 arrived on scene at 1358 hours and assumed LZ duties
with 27-11 assuming LZO.
The CFC crew took the roof and prepared to ram the dash to free the driver’s legs. Patient
was extricated at 1408 hours. Patient was taken to Ambulance 28 with the medics to
prepare the patient for transport. The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital
(Delaware) via Skycare1. The driver of the truck involved refused treatment on the scene.
Containment 27 responded to the scene to assist in containment for a ruptured saddle
tank on the truck. The fuel spill was confined and turned over to the trucking company
for clean up.
Fire police from Atglen, Parkesburg, Westwood and Modena assisted with closing Route
10.
The roadway was re-opened at 1620 hours, with all units clearing the scene.
