One Vehicle Into A Creek

Sunday, December 13th, 2009, at 2328 hours, the Cochranville Fire Company and an Ambulance
from the Parkesburg Fire Company were dispatched to Gum Tree Road East of Beaver Dam Road
for an auto accident with unknown injuries in Highland Township.

At 2331 hours, the call was upgraded to having one possibly trapped and Medic 93 was added to
the assignment.  

Deputy 27 responded at 2332 hours and upon arrival found a vehicle down a 20 foot bank on its
side in a creek with one occupant still trapped inside.

Engine 27-1 responded at 2337 hours and Rescue 27 at 2341.  

Deputy 27 requested an ambulance from the Modena Fire Company and Westwood Fire
Company's Rescue come to the scene also.  He then established "Gum Tree Road Command."

Engine 27-1 arrived and started to stabilize the vehicle.

Crews had to work quickly while they battled the freezing water, the steep bank, and getting tools
and other equipment up from the road down to the vehicle.

Additional fire police and Boat 35 were also called to the scene.  

Null's Towing was called in by the police as a precaution in case they were needed to help with
extricating the occupant.

The patient was extricated at 0027 and transported to Lancaster General Hospital.

All units returned available by 0148 hours.
