Working Chimney Fire on Althouse Road

March 3rd, 2008, at 1731 hours, the Cochranville Fire Company and an Ambulance and
Ladder from Station 21 (the Union Fire Company of Oxford) were alerted for a chimney
fire on the 200 block of Althouse Road in West Fallowfield Township.
Engine 27-3 and Deputy Lapp arrived on scene at 1737 hours. Deputy Lapp reported that
there was a working chimney fire. Engine 27-3 took "Althouse CP."
Crews from Cochranville and Oxford checked for extension in the house while others got
onto the roof to extinguish the fire. No extension was found. Crews were unable to clear
the chimney with "chimney bombs" or a 12 foot pike pole. They had to use a 20 foot piece
of steel tubing from Stoltzfus Auto Repair, brought to the scene by Null's Towing.
The fire was placed under control at 1838 hours.
All units cleared the scene and returned available by 1938 hours.
