A Busy Day for 27 Units

Sunday, March 30th, 2008 at 1106 hours, the Cochranville Fire Company was alerted for a
car fire on Route 926 in the area of Faggs Manor Road in Londonderry Township.
Engine 27-1 and Rescue 27 went en route at 1114 hours and arrived on scene at 1119 hours.
By the time all units arrived on scene the fire was only smoldering. The engine crew
finished extinguishing the fire while Rescue 27 handled traffic control.
Units returned available by 1209 hours.

After returning to the station from the car fire, someone called a member of the fire
company stating that they believed there to be a field fire on McHenry Road. After the
phone call, Captain Hoopes took Traffic 27 to investigate. He arrived on scene at 18
McHenry Road in Highland Township at 1249 hours, advised Chester County Fire Board
that there was about three acres of field on fire and asked them to dispatch the fire
company along with two additional brush trucks.
Crews from 27, Atglen Station 26 and Lancaster County, Christiana Station 5-2 worked for
almost two hours to get the field fire under control and fully extinguished.
All units returned available by 1431 hours.

After Engine 27-1 returned, the Engine from Oxford was released due to a brush fire in
their local. Brush 37 was also alerted to respond to Oxford's fire. While Station 21 was
busy on their brush fire, they had Lancaster County Robert Fulton Engine 5-13-1 standing
by at their station.
At 1531 hours Engine 5-13-1 was alerted in place of Station 21 for what was thought to be
another brush fire on Herr Drive in West Nottingham Township. After they went en route,
Chester County Fire Board advised that there were multiple calls reporting large amounts
of fire and added two additional brush trucks. Callers then stated that things were
starting to explode and that the fire had jumped to the other side of the road also.
With the working fire dispatch at 1544, the Cochranville Fire Company's Rescue 27 was
added to the assignment for Rapid Intervention. When Rescue 27 arrived on scene the
crew's assignment had changed to stay in the manpower pool until needed. Engine 27-1
also responded to the scene.
The rest of the 21 units cleared the brush call, then responded to this fire.
Units from Cecil County Station 8, North East Station 4, Quarryville Station 5-7, Robert
Fulton Station 5-13, Bart Station 5-1, West Grove Stations 12/22, Avondale Station 23, and
Medic 94 along with many others responded to this call.
Within this fire was tires, trees, fields and multiple structures.
All 27 units returned available by 1934 hours.
