Monday June 2nd, 2008 at 0645 hours, the Cochranville Fire Company was alerted for the
containment unit to assist the Avondale Fire Company (Station 23) with a hazardous
materials incident on Route 41 in Avondale Borough.
A tractor and trailer carrying oil stopped at the traffic light at Route 41 and Old Baltimore
Pike and lost approximately 1000 gallons of its load. The oil traveled into the storm
drains which drain into the area creeks.
The containment responded with five at 0734 hours. Upon arrival the containment was
advised to go to Indian Run Road and check the creek in the area for any oil that may have
made it there. There was no oil found in the creek. The containment called command and
was then advised to respond to the scene to assist with the clean-up. Crews were on scene
for an hour and a half applying oil absorbent and sweeping the roadway before being
released by the Route 41 command.
While returning to station the company was dispatched along with Lancaster County
Ambulance 5-2 for a vehicle accident on Route 41 just north of Route 10. The containment
responded from the intersection of 10 and 41. Reports were of a single vehicle into a
fence. The containment checked the area and met up with Deputy Lapp, nothing was
found and the assignment was recalled.
All units returned available by 1000 hours.
