On Thursday, October 4, 2007, the Cochranville Fire Company with Engine 27-1 traveled
to Delaware County Station 43 (
Holmes Fire Company,) for a cover detail due to a line of
duty death.  Michael Reagan, an active member of Holmes and Sharon Hill, passed away
from injuries sustained while operating at a working garage fire.

The day started with Engine 27-1 leaving town with a crew of 5 at 1030 hours.  After the
ride towards the city, the engine arrived at the 43 house at 1140 hours.  The crew was
briefed on their duties and response area by Holmes’ Lieutenant.  After the briefing,
Engine 27-1 went into service as Engine 4-3-2 covering their local.  The crew members had
a quite afternoon tending to the house, while two of the members worked on review for
their firefighter I quiz.  At 1700 hours the crew welcomed an additional cover, Truck 6-3
from Lancaster County.  At 1800 hours our crew packed up and prepared for the trip
home.  Engine 27-1 returned to its first due and went into service at 1930 hours.

October 5th, 2007, found an early start back to Del Co. Station 43.  The engine once again
left Cochranville with a crew of 5 at 0630 hours.  After driving through rush hour on Route
95 and MacDade Blvd, the engine arrived at 0740 hours.  The engine crew set up as Engine
4-3-2 and was with Truck 2 from Berks County.  Soon after we were joined by a Quint from
Swedesboro, New Jersey.  The crews assisted Station 43 with their morning preparations.
Shortly before 0900 hours, the units responded to assist on a dwelling, which upon arrival
of the Leedom Fire Company, they found that it was a working oven fire.  The fire was put
out with a can and the first arriving companies went into service with ventilation.  The
three units from the 43 house cover returned.  The remainder of the day was quite and
Engine 27-1 cleared at 1400 hours.

Just as the unit entered our first due area, the company was dispatched for a MVC on
Gum Tree Rd.  Engine 27-1 made the response and arrived on scene to find a one vehicle
MVC off the road, requesting for the Police Department only.  Engine 27-1 returned Rescue
27 and Ambulance 28.  Engine 27-1 remained on scene until PSP arrived and returned
available at 1530 hours.
