Members Attend Engine Operations Training

By: Lieutenant 27A Mike Trainor
August 5th, 2007

Saturday, August 4th & 5th 2007, Cochranville Fire Company members, Beth Brown and
Lieutenant 27A, Mike Trainor, attended an engine operations training course conducted
by Traditions Training at the West Chester Burn building hosted by the Longwood Fire
Company.  Other companies that attended include: Concordville, West Chester, Po-Mar-
Lin, Longwood, West Grove, and The Union Fire Company #1 of Oxford. This was a two
day training course which focused on hose line advancement, high-rise and interior
firefighting. Some specific topics that were covered include:

•        Effective Engine Company riding assignments.
•        Techniques for establishing continuous water supply.
•        Setting up your engine's hose-loads for success.
•        Advancing long-length attack lines.
•        Extending hose lines.
•        Operating the line on the fire.
•        Techniques for basement and attic fires

The different fire company members were divided into groups.  At that time, they went
through scenarios and were taught different techniques for hose loads and
coordination/operation with other engine companies.

Generally, I think we all took something away from this training.  It was certainly
valuable to work with our surrounding colleagues.

Special thanks to the Longwood Fire Company for the invitation, Assistant Chief 25
Dennis Bisson for the pictures and Traditions Training for coaching us through this
course.
