World Trade Center Artifact Dedication - Cochranville Fire Company

On the evening of September 8, 2011 members of the Cochranville Fire Company, Fire Department of New York, Fire Department of Arlington, and members of the community met at Station 27 for the unveiling of the fire company's September 11th Memorial. Dennis Keenan, the fire company's QRS Coordinator, learned about the opportunity to obtain an artifact from the Twin Towers from the September 11, 2001 attack. Keenan has been working hard over the past 2 years, filling out paperwork and submitting proposals to earn the privilege of being awarded an artifact to display at Cochranville's fire house. Keenan learned early this year that an artifact would be awarded to the fire company. The final plans were than drawn up and the work began on combining the Cochranville Fire Company's Fallen Firefighters Memorial with a memorial for the artifact and the lives lost as a result of the September 11th attacks. Members of the community donated their time and skills to help make the memorial and on this evening their efforts were reveled. President Charles Harris Jr opened the evening's events with the pledge of allegiance and the introduction of guests and officers of the fire company. Mike Trainor, Lieutenant 27, gave a speech on how the September 11th attacks brought America together in an effort to help those in need without a second thought. After Trainor's speech, FDNY Firefighter James Thompson, a man who was at Ground Zero on the morning of September 11th, and Ron "Scooter" Christman, a member of the Cochranville Fire Company and a firefighter in Arlington, VA who responded to the Pentagon that same morning, reveled the memorial for everyone to see. Dan Calder, a fire company member, thanked those of the community who helped make the memorial turn out so well. After that everyone present was invited to stay and take pictures and enjoy refreshments.
